Father, girlfriend charged with child abuse

A Winchester couple face felony child abuse charges after a 5-year-old was found with a broken arm, dehydration and malnourishment.

Marquis J. Robinson, 30, and Cassie M. Crowe, 32, both of 1128 Dale Drive, were arrested Wednesday following interviews with police.

According to court documents, Winchester Police officers were called to Clark Regional Medical Center Wednesday afternoon, where the child was being treated. Hospital staff had already called a state social worker.

At the time, the child had a broken arm and other issues, including a low body temperature of 94.7 and a glucose level of less than 20. Officers said there was also evidence of previous lacerations to his legs and genitals.

Robinson, the child’s father, later told police he had hit the child with a switch Sunday evening for “bad behavior,” which included waking Robinson up and urinating on himself.

Crowe was also interviewed by police and said she kept the child during the day while Robinson worked, and had for several days.

Police said neither had sought medical attention for the child until Wednesday. The child was later transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for further treatment.

Robinson and Crowe were both arrested for first-degree criminal abuse and lodged in the Clark County Detention Center. The charge carries a sentence of five to 10 years in prison upon conviction.
