GRC students recognized by Youth Salute
George Rogers Clark High School students were among those recognized by the annual Central Kentucky Youth Leadership Council’s “Youth Salute.” There were 42 GRC students among the 830 selected.
Several students from GRC were featured in The Sun weekly. This is the final installment.
Nathaniel’s accomplishments include being vice president of the Christian Fellowship Club, a leader in his church’s youth group, a member of Beta Club, Cardinal Nets, National Honor Society, volunteering at Beacon of Hope and youth leader for 252 Basics. He plans to major in biology and pursue a career as a cardiovascular surgeon.
Nick’s accomplishments include being sports editor for Smoke Signals, junior counselor at Wesley Woods Christian Camp, intern at WKYT TV, volunteer at Markey Cancer Center, mission trip to New York City in 2017, honor roll student, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Y Club member and golf team member. Nick plans to attend Georgia Tech University and become an aeronautical engineer.
Olivia’s accomplishments include being a Dance Blue volunteer, staff member of Smoke Signals, Y Club member, Kentucky Youth Assembly, Cardinal Nets, Beta Club, Young Democrats, National Honor Society, awards for 4.0 GPA and award for top 10 in the class. Olivia plans to major in environment or political science and pursue a career in political activism.
Preston’s accomplishments include GRC JROTC color guard, Raider team, drill team and air rifle team, Junior Leadership and Academic Bow, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Master Order of the Long Knife, Sons of Confederate Veterans, expert marksmanship and company first sergeant. Preston plans to major in mechanical engineering and become a combat engineer in the U.S. Army.
Sarah’s accomplishments include French Honor Society, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Literary Journal member and editor, French Club, placing three times in the Clark County Art Exhibit, vacation Bible school teacher, small group leader and youth band guitarist at Central Baptist Church. Sarah is considering majoring in biomedical engineering and would like work in the medical field with a global focus perhaps in biomedical engineering or as an inventor.
SAVANNAH CLAIRE ANDERSON
Savannah’s accomplishments include being sports editor for Smoke Signals, 4.0 GPA, top 10 in her class, ambassador for Girl Scout Troop 612, National Beta Club, National Honor Society, Wesley Woods Christian Camp junior counselor, volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul Society, girls’ basketball team and EKU Now academic scholarship. Savannah plans to pursue a career in physical therapy.
Savannah’s accomplishments include National Honor Society, Beta Club, swim team, leading children’s church, youth group, multimedia staff for Smoke Signals and Y Club. Savannah plans to pursue a degree in journalism and creative writing.
Sydney’s accomplishments include Kentucky 4-H State Teen Council member, secretary for District 4 Teen Council, president of Clark County 4-H Horse Club, public relations chair for Clark County 4-H Teen Leadership Club, delegate for Southern Region Teen Leadership Committee, Beta Club, Y Club service chairperson, delegate to 2017 presidential inauguration, Girl Scout Silver Award recipient and Kentucky 4-H Achievement Program bronze award recipient. She plans to pursue a degree in the medical field.
Tanner’s accomplishments including founding the Hip-Hop Literature Club, treasurer of student Y Club, Beta Club, GRC baseball, National French Honor Society, Young Democrats Club, National Youth Leadership Foundation engineering and technology alumni. Tanner plans to major in computer science and minor in physics. He wants to be a computer programmer.
Taylor’s accomplishments include National Honor Society, Beta Club, Dance Blue volunteer, member of GRC girls soccer district and regional championship team in 2016 and 2017, 39th district All-Tournament Team in 2016 and 2017, KHSAA 10th Region All-2nd Team in 2016 and 2017 and member of 2017 girls soccer Smoke Mountain Cup championship team. Taylor plans to major in elementary education and play soccer in college.
Taylor’s accomplishments include Beta Club, National Honor Society, Smoke Signals, Young Democrats and Family, Career, Community Leaders of America. Taylor plans to major in journalism and become a foreign correspondent.
WILLIAM DAVID HENRY
William’s accomplishments include GRC varsity football captain, president of First United Methodist Church youth team, member and usher at FUMC, team captain for senior league baseball, volunteer at Operation Happiness, Haiti service trip, National Honor Society, National Beta Club, FCCLA and Skills USA competition team leader. William plans to study engineering at West Point, the U.S. Military Academy.
